Springing into Outdoor Workouts!

This past winter both New York and Milwaukee have definitely been a bit more challenging for me. In the past, California has always provided me with daily beach runs and hikes, even fun outdoor yoga classes. Moving to the city in January, I have been doing most of my classes and training at Equinox. Of course, this isn’t a terrible thing, as they have an insanely nice gym full of great classes, and when I have it in me, I love to take a Soul Cycle class.

Gear for outdoor workouts

Now that the weather is changing the excuse to do workouts and yoga classes outside is happening again. Living in Tribeca, I am extremely lucky enough to be on the West Side Highway, where you can run all the way up to Central Park if you so choose. Also Chelsea Piers is right there, and I just may take a trapeze class this summer. Besides that, it is now Citi bike time, and renting these to cruise the city will get my fix from my beach cruisers sitting in Marina Del Rey.

Adidas backpack

One of the things that I have been into these days, is a good back back. We don’t realize this, but carrying a tote with yoga gear, extra clothes, and water bottles, can be hard on our bodies. When you are able to even out the weight, especially when walking to a class or riding a bike, it is so much better for you. I love this new one I just picked up from adidas. It is really cool looking, and holds enough in several pockets to get me through the day.

Workouts in color

On top of that, Spring screams color for me, and purple leggings and shoes are a showstopper. These Nike kicks are completely comfortable and I can cross train in them, as well as pair them with jeans and a t-shirt. I love these Zella pants from Nordstrom  because they are high-waisted. When I am doing yoga, I hate to fuss with my pants,  and you can pair a cute crop top with them.

Zella jacket

I am totally obsessed with this Zella jacket and adidas top also from Nordstrom because they can be used for workouts and for a look for the day. The crop top is going to be perfect with my denim skirt and booties, and this windbreaker is pretty cool on its own with my floral denim pants.

Adidas Superstar X Rocker Vibes

One of my favorite things about fashion right now, is the layering effect. I have been rocking dresses layered with tees underneath to get the 90’s vibe back. Fun rocker plaids are totally back in fashion for the spring, and a fun new line I stumbled across is Public School.

Fun plaid dressTheir designs are fun, youthful, and all have a bit of edge to them. This plaid dress can be worn in so many ways, and is one of those that you can travel with easily. Think a denim jacket for the night with some cool booties.

Right now, I am totally obsessed with the adidas Superstar sneaker. They have made a comeback and you are seeing all kinds of unique twists to them. The gold toe of this pair has an edgy feel, and totally goes with the fun plaid dress from Public School. I love mixing the two together to really give the look some cool girl vibes. They certainly will look just as hip with dark jeans and a tee. For day, I love just a simple sneaker mixed with my go to dresses.adidas superstar sneaker

We all know that I have certainly been into the choker vibes lately, but I also am such a fan of a skull necklace. It is always something that you can add to any look to give it an edgy vibe. This was perfect with the plaid dress, and I simply added a few of my favorite stacker rings to round out the look!

Spring accessories under $100!

Spring is here, and I couldn’t be more excited. With the weather turning warmer, it is time to start thinking light dresses mixed with fun accessories. This season, there are so many great bags and cool jewelry pieces that will not break your bank. Even this fun dress from Nordstrom is only $69.00.

Spring dress

I am still loving choker necklaces, especially ones that tie or are a bolero style. When it comes to shoes, it is time to break out the sandals and the lighter color sneakers. One big trend is the lace-up sandal, like I am wearing, so make sure to snag a pair. Also, simple slip on tennis shoes are easy especially when you are running around. Some of my shoe picks are below.

cross body bagI am a sucker for a handbag. I recently came across Sole Society, and their shoes and bags are on trend and all budget friendly. My favorite for spring is a cross body bag, like this one above that you can also wear on your shoulder. The little bit of hardwear and fringe makes it just perfectly trendy. I also will be picking up the ones below, as I always am in the need for a new travel tote.

Topshop jewelryWhen it comes to jewelry, I tend to keep it pretty minimal, but my favorite thing to do is stack a bunch of rings on one hand. The above mixed metal pieces are all from Topshop and there is no rule, just mix and match them for a bit of fun. Another great idea, is taking a choker, like this one from Chan Luu, and wrapping it around your wrist for something different. That makes this simple piece even more of a steal!

Ruffles for Spring, Yes Please!

We all know that my style is an everyday mix more on the playful tomboy side of things. That doesn’t mean I don’t love to play dress up now and then, and this season for me, it is all about the ruffle details. This trend is fun, and can be seen from casual tees to gorgeous flowy dresses (hint my spring wedding dress guide is coming). Whether you keep it casual like I did with this cute striped top from J.Crew, or go for a fun off the shoulder blouse, make sure to add this trend to your spring list.

Blouse with ruffles

Bold necklaces, especially tortoise shell, are also making a comeback. The choker trend is still going strong, but I love to add a big standout piece to a simple shirt like this cool piece from J.Crew as well. If you are wearing your hair up, and are showing off your shoulders, try a fun bold earring instead.

Check out some of my favorite ruffle blouses below. Make sure to find one that suits your style from simple to funky!

Spring Denim is Here!

There is a change on the denim scene, and it has me smiling. Think faded, frayed, embroidered and pastel. Last season we began to see designers definitely branching out from the skinny distressed jean and the wide leg that had been trending for awhile. Whether you go big or take the trend to a scaled down level, trying one is key for the season.

frayed denim

I am all about the wild frayed bottom. It screams fun, and you can make them dressy with heels, sporty with a sneaker, or even preppy like I did here with my favorite Chanel bag and J.Crew boat shoes. This pair from Topshop is great because they are under $100, and when it comes to major trends, I like to buy things that are a steal!

You are also going to see all kinds of fun embroidered jeans, especially floral prints. Like they say, we are all ready for the May flowers after a long month of showers. Whether you do them simple down one side, or find a distressed pair with lots of fun floral print, go ahead and give it a try. I like to keep my top basic to focus on the embroidery.

Make it light and pretty. Pastels are a huge trend this season. I have already purchased several pairs in sneakers of course! If you don’t want to get too crazy on a new pair of jeans, my advice is to invest in a clean light colored pair. I love the idea of a baby pink or soft green denim. They will look perfect for day with a simple jean jacket, and at night a soft romantic blouse.

Faded denim is here to stay. The days of simple dark wash ankle jeans, are taking a backseat to more of a rocker feel. Whether you go for a boyfriend fit, ripped and distressed, or a crop wide leg one, have fun with this trend. Again, I suggest getting a fun pair that don’t break the bank, and make sure to add some cool shades and put some cool factor in your step.
