Wow, I cannot believe that the weekend came and went so fast! This year the NBA All-Star game took place here in the City of Angels, and it was incredible. I wish I could have been in numerous places at once, because literally there were events every way you turned. I started out the week with 47 Brand and Shoe Palace, one of my favorite stores on Melrose. Thursday, was jam packed from seeing the new line from Michell and Ness and Homage on Fairfax, to ending the night at Adidas.
Friday, before the rising stars challenge, I had the chance to speak at the NBA Lab x Crossover event, as well as kick It at the fun 747 adidas event. It felt like a music meets kicks festival, where new drops were happening as well as the amazing create and cultivate event. The night ended at a Jordan event where I got to see some custom kicks made! Saturday finally slowed down a bit, but before All-Star Saturday kickoff, I had the chance to interview the talented Kristen Ledlow. I cannot wait for you guys to see the fun footage. All-Star Saturday was full of fun fashion, and of course some amazing dunks. Sunday couldn’t have been more fun kicking off the game day with Mitchell and Ness and their brunch. By the time the game rolled around, my weekend could not have been more complete. Of course it was all about the fashion, and some of my favorite looks are below!
L to R Ben Simmons, Tristan Thompson, Rich Paul, John Wall, Lebron James
Well, the NBA season is halfway done, which I can hardly believe. This week is going to be one of the busiest of the year for me, as I am running to events all over Los Angeles. Not only am I excited to be sporting fun gear from Mitchell and Ness, Nike, Adidas, I cannot wait to see what the best dressed players in the league are wearing. As we know, the NBA has been making the biggest statement in fashion in the past few years, and if there were ever a runway show, it is All-Star weekend. Some of my favorite looks of the season are below. Players are sporting everything from casual to suited up, and it could not be more exciting!
Oklahoma City Thunder player Russ Westbrook
Los Angeles Laker player Brandon Ingram
Los Angeles Clipper player Deandre Jordan
Golden State Warrior player Nick Young
Memphis Grizzle athlete Chandler Parsons
Sacramento Kings player Iman Shumpert
Philadelphia 76ers Player Ben Simmons
Houston Rockets player James Harden
New Orleans Pelicans players Ant Davis and Demarcus Cousins
I had the pleasure of speaking to Jordan Bell and Patrick Mccaw of the Golden State Warriors about their fashion. The environment was casual after a practice, and chatting with both of these athletes about their personal style was so much fun. As the year progresses, we are seeing more veteran athletes really step up their game in the fashion world, and these young players are not far behind. I watched Jordan Bell as force with the Oregon Ducks, and this is his Rookie year in the NBA.
We started off talking about this incredible suit from The Good Counsel, which is a men’s luxury, Big and Tall e-commerce destination. This company has suited up many athletes, and is perfect for a game when you need to be dressy. That being said, casual vibes are being seen just as much from these players, and Jordan has been seen in some really cool pieces from the clothing brand Regi Phenom.
This line based in Los Angeles, was created for tall and athletic body types, I love the cool structure and lines of this sweater that Jordan wore. When we talked about NBA All-Star in Los Angeles, he said we may see something new and custom made from this line. Which, of course I cannot wait for. Off the court, when it comes to casual, we have to talk about the sneakers. Jordan is a Nike athlete, and his FAVORITES are the Nike Air Foamposites.
When It comes to his on court shoe, Jordan usually wears the Kevin Durant’s to play in. This leads to the question of traveling and being a Rookie. The schedule is crazy, and packing is not easy. Jordan told me he is not great at packing, but is getting better as the year goes on. What does he have to have when he travels? His stereo system that he can listen too while he is getting ready at the hotel. Make sure to follow him @1jordanbell to see his “fit” at NBA All-Star!
I first met Patrick Mccaw at NBA Summer League while playing TopGolf and talking kicks. He went to UNLV and was a Running Rebel, so the two of us have a lot in common. Not only is he fun and casual in his fashion, he may be one of the nicest guys in the league! Pat is only in his second year here in the league, and he already has a championship ring with the Golden State Warriors team.
He says, that as a young player in the league he would rather be more casual then dressy. His travel routine is on the fly, as he usually packs the day of to hit the road. A GSW warm-up and some cool kicks are easy, but his favorite line that you will see him in often is Thrasher. When it comes to the kicks, Pat wears a ton of Jordan’s. I love the casual photo above with his Penny Hardaway throwback tee and jeans. Growing up, this was his favorite player, and he continues to aspire to his game style. What does Pat have to take with him on the road? His video games. Right now he is playing a lot of Call of Duty, which I challenged him on with my next trip to San Francisco!
On the court Pat likes to mix up his shoes. He wears a mix from the Kobe’s, to Paul George, and Kyrie’s. Most of them are inspired by the Golden State Warriors colors like these Nike Kobe AD Mid shoes against the Toronto Raptors in January. Make sure you follow @pmccaw0 to keep up with his cool kicks collection!
As the NBA gears up for a new season, the league is in the midst of lots of young players making their own fashion statements against the veterans. This year, the kids will complete the uprising. Leading the charge of course is Russell Westbrook, who graced the cover of the Sports Illustrated fashion issue. Not far behind him are some young stars, like these four pictured above, Jordan Clarkson, D’Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, and Julius Randle.
As we know the worlds of fashion and sports are interconnected. From athletes launching fashion lines to celebrities serving as the face of athletic brands, we are seeing endless crossover. Basketball stars know how to get our attention! Aside from them being superstars in the game, they captivate us with their swag from game to game. From statement making suits, to signature sneaks, they are leading the trends on fashion conversation. As the two worlds collide, the NBA season becomes its own runway show with more fun fashion then I can take. I mean I am already dreaming up who is going to be the best dressed over All-Star weekend here in Los Angeles. Are you ready for the season and the endless fashion excitement?
Here are my fashion favorites below, including some new young talent and those veterans with swag.
