NBA connected jersey

Everyday, Game Day

Welcome to the Association!

On September 15th, Nike put on what I can only describe as an amazing presentation to unveil their new Nike X NBA uniforms at Sony Studios. Being invited was not only an honor, but when actually arriving at the event I had the chills. The media vibe was like nothing I have seen in a long time, and the lead up to the show was well put together.

Before the start of the show, we got to walk through a really cool room of mirrors that led into a great warehouse. From there, the show began with three huge moving video vignettes before they began to unveil the new jerseys.

Nike’s new NBA partnership will begin with the 2017-18 season, but last night the Swoosh gave us a glimpse of what to expect as we got an exclusive look at the brand new NBA Statement Edition uniforms.

Every team had a player representing, and they walked on the stage with the new zip up hoodie before all at once taking it off to show their own new jerseys.

The new Statement uniforms will be the threads teams will be wearing for big time games or rivalries. The design of each uniform is inspired by the team’s desire to make a bold statement every time they step on the court. The aesthetic expresses the specific spirit of the current roster. Take the Boston, Chicago and Cleveland uniforms for example, the chose black bases to represent a sense of strength and power. Each has team-specific detailing; Chicago’s pays homage to its historic use of pinstripes, while Cleveland’s displays the franchise’s secondary logo. Other teams such as the Denver Nuggets use their heritage as inspiration (mile-high altitude), and the list goes on.

The defending Champions Golden State Warriors pay respect to the culture and legacy of its hometown: Oakland. Their uniforms read “The Town” above a new team crest, which employs Oakland’s family Oaktree (a design found on street signs and sourced by the team through Oakland’s city government).

Not only that, Nike just announced the “Nike NBA Jersey with NikeConnect”, a connected jersey that allows wearers to get highlight reels, scores, stats and exclusive content from and about their favorite players and teams with a tap of their phones on the jersey’s tag. Check out the video below!
