How do you Athleisure?

I can’t believe that the MLB baseball playoffs are right around the corner. It is officially fall, and where did the time go? The Los Angeles Dodgers are in first place in the National League, and this city is excited! When I say they are good, guys they are great. I don’t follow baseball as closely as I do the NBA and NFL, but I usually get really excited when playoffs roll around. Being in Cali for as long as I have, I would say that my team on the west coast is obviously the Dodgers, so I will for sure be getting to a playoff game for a hot dog and beer!

Baseball hat and sweats

One of the things I love about a good old baseball hat like this one from 47 Brand is that it looks worn in and has a vintage feel to it. When I am running errands around town after a workout, it is so easy to throw on a cap repping your team. I have become obsessed with anything that is oversized this season, and if you are looking for a trendy piece, make sure to find a cool sweatshirt like this one from Rag and Bone I literally throw it on with my yoga leggings and I am stylish for the day. Not to mention, these days I like to carry a small bag that fits my phone and a credit card. How cute is this one from Nordstrom? It is under $50.00 and totally adds some more style to the look.

Zella leggings for Athleisure look

If you haven’t jumped on the legging bandwagon, then it is time to do so. Zella from Nordstrom fits me really well, and they are not too expensive and are on trend. These are such a great color, and the moto style makes it easy to wear them all day without feeling boring.

Adidas kicks

I did encounter a little bit of a shoe problem when it came to this look. I just picked up these adidas kicks, and they really go the distance when it comes to running on the treadmill and doing errands around town. They look just as great with a pair of simple denim jeans and a t-shirt.

I also kind of want to kick up my leggings in these fun Nike kicks. The Nike logo is the cutest baby pink which makes them also so fun. There is a bit of an added girly touch to them, which obviously makes the high top unique!

Take me out to the Ball Game and Brunch!

Well, it is that time of the year and Major League Baseball is back in full swing. Nothing beats going to a great ball game during the day in the summer. One of my favorite things to do, is have a hot dog, and enjoy the weather. Being born in Pittsburgh, the Pirates will always be my favorite team, but don’t get me wrong, I will go to any ball park and enjoy some baseball.

Besides baseball season, summer time calls for brunching in the city almost every weekend. I can never pass up a good mimosa and eggs benedict. From a baseball game to brunch, I have you covered this month!

Layered look for the ball game

When it comes to a game outside, I love to make sure that I have layers. This denim skirt is perfect for the weather and a simple tee is great with a jacket that you can layer around your waist. Always have a light jacket, as usually the weather will change or the sun goes down and the shade can make it cool.

Checker Vans

Comfy sneaks and a good hat are also a must. You will be walking all day, so make sure you have a good pair, and these checker Vans are so cool girl. Also, this hat from Topshop is not only cute for the game, but it has my Pirates logo so I am totally representing my team. The Rails is making the best coats. Not only is this perfect all summer long, but the print is fun and on trend.

Maxi skirt

Thanks to J.Crew this skirt and denim combo is one of my favorites. I am the biggest fan of a maxi skirt, and I love to pair it with a simple chambray top to keep it low key. This whole look will be on rotation, as you can definitely make this skirt a go to for a cocktail event as well.

Straw Hat

Straw hats make me smile in the summer! You can wear them to brunch, to the beach, travel with them, a totally must have piece. This one from Nordstrom is also under $50!

Tretorn white sneakers

Clutch and bangles

Sneakers with skirts are the new uniform, and these all white Tretorn’s are super cute and go with everything. I also love this cute clutch and bangle set from J.Crew as well. They are very summery and easy to throw with any look from day to night!

Cheer to baseball and brunch!

HOW TO DRESS FOR A SPORTING EVENT

Dress for a sporting event

One of my passions in life, being raised in an NBA family, is that I have spent a good part of my life at sporting events. Athleisure wear has become such a big part of what we wear everyday, so it has become much easier to look cute, while still being comfortable at any type of game.

We know it’s hard to say goodbye to summer time, but when summer slowly runs it’s course, fall comes rushing in with cool breezes, beautiful colored leaves, delicious foods and yes, football season. Some may dread it, some may not even realize it’s here, and some may adore it, but regardless which category you fall into, you can’t deny going to a live sports game is beyond entertaining. The camaraderie, the cheering and the superstitious game-day-rituals make all sports events exciting. Whether you’re a super fan, or just a spectator, we’ll make sure you’re dressed and ready to go for any sports game.

Know The Venue

Is this an outdoor stadium, or an indoor stadium? Where are your seats? Knowing ahead of time what the venue looks like and how it is laid out will prepare you for the type of day you will be encountering. Season ticket holders close to the field (or court), or first timers way up in the nosebleeds, you’ll be sure to enjoy it at any level.

Rain Or Shine
rain or shine

Anytime there is a chance of being outside, we always want to pay attention to the weather. Rain or shine, these large sporting events go on without hesitation. If there is even the slightest chance of rain, don’t assume the game will be cancelled—athletes have been trained to play in the worst conditions, so be ready to go no matter what.

Rain/Cold Weather

  • Layers for warmth
  • Sweatshirt with a hood
  • Beanie
  • Rain poncho (no umbrellas; they block the view of your neighbors)
  • Thick socks
  • Rain boots (if necessary)
  • Warm Weather

Warm Weather

  • Sunscreen
  • Light layers
  • Lightweight jacket or long sleeve (perhaps something you can tie around your waist)
  • Hat to shield your face

Go The Distance

Let’s not sugar coat it, the duration of the day will be long, especially after going up and down those steep stairs for hot dogs. Wearing extra comfortable shoes is more than a necessity for any game day activity so stick with shoes with rubber soles like trainers, or even a shoe with a small wedge heel to make sure your feet are not going to give out on you half way through the day. Boots are always a hit; just make sure you’re positive they can go the distance.

Know The Team Colors

dress in team colors to sporting event

If you are a fan, support your team by wearing team colors! It may seem silly, but it’s part of the fun to give in to sports traditions. If you feel strange walking through the grocery store before hand with paint on your face, we promise you’ll feel right at home as soon as you get in that stadium. In fact, you may even feel left out by NOT wearing the team colors. Also, knowing the opposing teams colors is a good idea too, because nothing is more awkward then accidently choosing an all orange ensemble at a Los Angeles Dodgers home game versus The San Francisco Giants.

Small Bags Are Best

Choosing a bag that is small and requires no hands is your best bet, because you’ll want to stay mobile and not worry about finding a place to set it down. Who knows how many drinks are spilled at a game, and we don’t want your bag getting soaked with soda and mustard from being smashed on the floor by your feet. Also, the NFL now has a clear bag policy, so make sure to keep up to date on rules and regulations.

Getting the chance to attend a sporting event is a real experience from the beginning. From the pre-game grill sessions, to the screaming fans, to the little kids dancing in the stands, to the “kiss-cam” on the big screen, you’ll find there is plenty to take in besides just the game. So put on your best game-face and get rowdy with the professionals!
